‘We ate a lot of cake and we’re not sorry’: Melissa Leong is treated to a sweet surprise as she celebrates her birthday on the set of MasterChef

MasterChef Australia judge Melissa Leong celebrated her 39th birthday on the set the hit TV show in Melbourne on Friday. 

She took to Instagram to share a photo of herself alongside her co-hosts Jock Zonfrillo and Andy Allen.

The culinary judge dressed for the day in a floral dress with puffy sleeves and a frilly skirt, teamed with statement red earrings.

She looked over the moon with the surprise of a delicious-looking cake that appeared to be coated in white chocolate and topped with a selection of fruits and candles.

The room was also decorated in colourful streamers and a Happy Birthday sign. 

The TV presenter thanked all her friends, family and followers for their well wishes in the caption.

She said: ‘We ate a lot of cake on set as a precursor to my birthday today, and we’re not sorry.’

Melissa went on to hint about the upcoming season of MasterChef.

She wrote: ‘Can’t wait to show you what my pals @zonfrillo @andyallencooks and I have been cooking up… not long now!’ 

This comes after TV Blackbox reported that MasterChef Australia’s premiere was delayed until the Married At First Sight final aired to avoid a ratings clash.

According to the publication, the Channel 10 show is set to debut on Sunday April 18 against the new season of Nine’s Lego Masters.

This indicates that Nine’s Married At First Sight is expected to conclude in the week of April 11, which is the first week of ratings after the Easter break.

Melissa’s birthday comes after she announced in December that she and her husband Joe Jones, split up after almost four years of marriage.
