B.J. Thomas says he is battling stage four lung cancer.

The Grammy-winning vocalist, 78, released a statement Tuesday informing fans of his diagnosis and expressing thanks to his friends and loved ones amid the health battle.

‘I just wanted to take this unique opportunity to share my gratitude to Gloria, my wonderful wife and my rock for over 53 years, my family, friends, and fans,’ the Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head artist said.

The Hooked on a Feeling singer said he feels ‘blessed to have had the opportunity to record and perform beautiful songs in pop, country, and gospel music, and to share those wonderful songs and memories around the world with millions of you.’

He added: ‘I ask all of you for your prayers during this time and that my music can live on with you.’

The veteran crooner, who is being treated at a medical facility in Texas, is ‘hopeful for a complete recovery,’ his reps said.

Thomas is the winner of five Grammys, with three Best Inspirational Performance awards coming in consecutive years in 1978, 1979 and 1980, with the respective hits Home Where I Belong, Happy Man and You Gave Me Love (When Nobody Gave Me A Prayer). His rendition of Amazing Grace took the category in 1982, while his track The Lord’s Prayer win the Best Gospel Performance.

Among his first hits were his 1966 cover of the Hank Williams song I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, and the 1968 song Hooked on a Feeling.

His biggest hit to date has come with the 1969 song Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head, which was at the top of the charts for a month to start 1970. The song, which was featured in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, was named the Best Song at the Oscars. The song has also been featured in films such as Forrest Gump and Spider-Man 2.

Thomas’s international sales have crossed the 70 million album mark.
