Katy Perry looks on in horror as American Idol contestant passes out and is rushed to hospital

Katy Perry watched on helplessly as an American Idol contestant passed out on stage.

During Monday night’s episode, the talented hopefuls were divided into pairs to perform duets in front of judges Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

Ronda Felton and Funke Lagoke were teamed up together and performed Tell Him, by Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion.

But as the judges were giving their verdict, Funke collapsed.

Luke said that he felt Funke carried Ronda, while Katy said she admired Ronda’s heart.

‘Well, we have had a clear and present disagreement,’ Lionel started saying to the pair, as Funke looked down and swayed.

Seconds later, she collapsed, landing face-down on the stage with a sickening thud.

Katy gasped and clutched her face as the crew ran to Funke’s side.

‘Are you okay?’ Luke asked as Funke was turned over. ‘Don’t grab her. She busted her chin y’all.’

‘Funke? Can you hear me? Funke? Funke?’ a crew member asked, as a paper towel was placed on Funke’s chin. ‘Squeeze my hand.’

Sirens were heard, and medics rolled in with a stretcher for Funke, who said weakly, ‘Glue please. I don’t want no stitches.’

She was lifted onto the stretcher and rolled out as Ronda wept in the crowd.

With Funke rolled away, Lionel walked up to Ronda, who was now sitting in the bucket seats.

‘I was about to deliver some news, so I thought I should deliver it to you,’ Lionel told her. ‘What I was about to say is both of you deserve to go through.’

A message on the screen said that Funke was treated for dehydration and released, and would be performing in next week’s ‘Showstopper’ round.

Funke did not break any bones, but she did need stitches, the judges told Ronda.

‘I know that was traumatic but we’re here for you. We’re family, ok?’ Luke said as he comforted Ronda.

Ronda responded with concern and well wishes for her singing partner.

‘It’s absolutely amazing news. I can’t say that I’m happy in this moment, I’m just worried about her health more than anything.

‘I feel like that’s the number one important thing right now,’ she told the judges.

‘I just want her to know that I love her, that I care about her, I want her to be ok.’

'I was about to deliver some news, so I thought I should deliver it to you,' Lionel told Ronda who sat crying after her friend was taken to hospital. 'What I was about to say is both of you deserve to go through.'
