A brave fish has made a final break for freedom in a tense 32-second journey from a bowl of water across tarmac and into a drain.

A large fish was left in a shallow red bucket filled with water after it was caught by a fisherman in Tuyen Quang, Vietnam.

Footage showed the moment the fish took a leap of faith by launching itself from the bucket and onto the tarmac street on Thursday, March 18.

Cars continued past as it used its muscles to move its body dramatically across the road.

In the short video clip the fish used this movement to travel through the air and across the dry tarmac.

It seemed to sense the presence of a water source as it headed towards a drain on the right hand side of the road.

A young boy who cycled past the fish as it landed in the pool of water left the road and watched as it completed its grand escape.

The person who took the video said: ‘The most spectacular prison break in the world.’

Fishing is popular in Tuyen Quang, where the range of native fish includes: Black Carp, Catfish, Dong Ho giant carp, Chinese bighead carp, black shark, mrigal,  and Red River giant catfish.
