This is the heart-pounding moment a mother saves her toddler from being crushed by a falling slab of snow after it plunges to the ground from a high-rise building.

CCTV footage captured in the city of Yaroslavl, in the western Russian region of Yaroslavl Oblast, shows the mother walk along a snow-covered street with her child when she notices a large chunk of snow begin to fall.

The mother immediately grabs the infant and runs into the road as an approaching car comes to a sudden halt.

The pair make it safely to the other side of the road as large slabs of snow come crashing down onto the spot where the pair were standing just moments earlier.

During the clip, the mother and her child walk along the pavement and stop to look at a small fir tree.

Within seconds, the mother looks up and sees the falling snow and ice mass heading towards them.

She immediately grabs her child and runs into the road in front of an approaching car which brakes sharply to avoid hitting them.

As the large slab of snow crashes to the ground, the mother makes it safely to the other side of the road with her toddler and looks back at the building.

The incident comes just a week after a resident in the nearby city of Petrozavodsk died after a block of ice fell from a building and landed on him.

The man was standing on the porch of his house when the slab fell from the roof, according to local media.

In 2017, an elderly woman was injured when a slab of snow and ice fell on her head in the city of Voronezh in south-western Russia’s Voronezh Oblast region.

The incident was caught on CCTV cameras in the city and led to residents calling on the authorities to do more to clear snow from roofs.

In 2015, a pedestrian was nearly crushed by huge chunks of falling ice as he walked down a street in Syktyvkar, northern Russia.

The police later said the man was ‘shaken but not hurt’ and urged others to watch out for falling snow and ice.
