Millionaire and wife feud after over after husband sneaks off to buy £5.75 bottle of wine on RHPH

A millionaire property developer ended up feuding with his stay-at-home mum wife after the pair and their 13-year-old daughter swapped lives with a struggling family on Rich House Poor House.

Trevor and Marie Cutmore, who live in one of Lincolnshire’s most exclusive villages in a four-bedroom house on more than an acre of grounds, swapped lives and budgets with Michael, 31,  and Natasha Howard, 28, also from Lincolnshire, whose joint income puts them in the bottom ten per cent of earners.

The Cutmores are use to a life of indulgence, often splashing out on £400 dinners, £1,000 bottles of wines and £2,500 watches.

But in this week’s episode of the Channel 5 show, the couple and their daughter Joy had to survive on a new budget of £109.95, meaning they have to give up luxuries.

Trevor, who prides himself on his negotiation skills and trains people to be property developers, convinces Marie to give up her daily 70p newspaper to create a saving of £3.50 over the five day experiment.

His intention is to use the money to buy a cheap bottle of wine, but Marie refuses to let him have one, arguing they both need to make sacrifices.

Saying he wouldn’t think twice about blowing his whole weekly budget on a lunch, Trevor heads to the open air market instead of a supermarket in order to negotiate prices down.

As a former chef, he explains that he’s use to negotiating to get the best ingredients and also convinces his daughter to haggle with traders, encouraging her to ask for a pack of three tea towels for £1.80 instead of £2 they’re advertised for.

After she successfully seals the deal, Trevor ends up teasing his daughter saying:  ‘You can’t let them pack it and give it to you and then negotiate. You’ve done a number on her, she won’t be able to feed her children tonight.’

In total he spends £66 at the market, not worried about blowing most of the budget of food because he says that it’s all they need for the week.

But after showing off the shopping to his wife, who is disappointed he didn’t get her any chocolate, Trevor sneaks back out to the corner shop to buy a bottle of Sauvignon blanc.

‘What’s that in the fridge?’ Marie asks after discovering the bottle.

‘It was £5.75, bargain,’ Trevor says, defending himself.

Furious, Marie returns the bottle to the corner shop and get their money back, with Trevor fuming ‘you’ve never taken anything back!’.

On her return, it appears Trevor has learned his lesson, and grovels to Marie.

‘I made a mistake, and hopefully you can forgive me,’ he says.

‘Is there anyway you could find it in your heart and we can get a bottle of wine and you can get a newspaper in the morning,’ he pleads.

Michael gave up a career as a semi-professional footaballer due to knee injuries and now travels and hour and half a day to work as manager in a sports shop, meaning Natasha is left with the bulk of childcare for their two children seven-year-old son Isiah and six-year-old daughter Tiani.

The couple often aren’t able to keep the heating on, due to their expensive 1960s boiler, with Natasha revealing she wears her dressing gown when she cooks because her kitchen is so cold.

Like Trevor did, Michael hopes to leave his job and go into a career in property development, in order to earn more money and spend time with the family.

At the end of the week, the two families meet with Trevor offering to become Michael’s mentor for free, a service he usually charges £24,000 for.

He then offers to help him build a property development business, offering to put him in touch with his investors, leaving Michael to break down in tears.

‘We’ve seen his heart from his friends and family, this is the time to help,’ Trevor says.

‘This doesn’t feel real, having this opportunity is everything,’ Michael adds.
