Phillip Schofield shocks Alice Beer and This Morning viewers with ‘smutty’ innuendo

Phillip Schofield left Alice Beer and This Morning viewers in shock by making a ‘smutty’ innuendo on Thursday’s show.

The presenter, 58, got things off to a cheeky start when he cheekily asked Alice, 55, ‘how are you allowed to be taken up The Shard?’ within minutes of the episode going on air.

Phillip and co-host Holly Willoughby, 48, were so amused by his unexpected comment, they struggled to control their laughter and exploded into a fit of giggles.

Oh dear! On Thursday, within minutes of the show going on air, Phillip Schofield, 58, shocked Alice Beer, 55, and This Morning viewers with a ‘smutty’ innuendo

Alice was reporting live from The Shard – London’s iconic 72-storey skyscraper – for a segment concerning bars opening post lockdown.

With a mischievous look on his face, Phil asked: ‘How are you allowed to be taken up The Shard?’

Unprepared for the host’s cheeky quip, a gobsmacked Alice uttered: ‘I’m sorry!?’ before clarifying: ‘I got the lift!’ as she laughed off the innuendo.

Phil and his co-host Holly couldn’t stop laughing over the moment, and struggled so much to compose themselves that they attempted to cut to an ad break.

Viewers took to Twitter after watching the interaction, with one person asserting: ‘only @Schofe could get away with asking @_alicebeer why she was allowed to be “taken up the shard” on daytime TV lol.’

‘Sorry. 4 minutes into the show and Phil has to make a “smutty” remark. This Morning is not the show it used to be. I’m all for a laugh but come on ….’ tweeted another.

Phil’s ‘smutty’ remark came days after he and Holly revealed an un-aired clip following Monday’s programme in which they were attempting to record a 10-second promo of what was coming up in the show.

However, the duo took a whole eight minutes to record the preview as Phil struggled to read the autocue without bursting into giggles, as he tried to get his head around the bizarre segment in which roving reporter Josie Gibson milked a horse.

Things got so bad that at one point, Holly squealed: ‘Stop I’m going to wet myself, I’m going to wet myself!’ as she wiped away the tears.

The footage, filmed after Monday’s show had wrapped, saw Holly perfectly reading her line, saying: ‘Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure joins us to give us a clue about who the fourth member of ‘H’ might be.’

But when it came to Phil’s turn, he wasn’t as successful as he started to say: ‘Josie Gibson will be learning to milk a horse…’ before trailing off into a fit of giggles.

Shocked by the unexpected segment, he explained: ‘What the hell is… what’s that?!’ as Holly and the crew began to laugh around him.

As the pair continued laughing, he asked: ‘Is that real, did you just do that to blow me up?’

They then aired several outtakes with the pair in continued hysterics as they failed on a number of occasions to complete the promo without losing it.

In one moment, Holly wiped away her tears of laughter as she moaned: ‘Stop I’m going to wet myself, I’m going to wet myself!’ after Phil said: ‘It’s going to be quite hard for me to say it!’
