A critically ill baby was resuscitated on the dockside as six children and four adults were hospitalised with hypothermia after being rescued in a migrant boat off the coast of Gran Canaria.

Spanish authorities say 52 African migrants were pulled from the water more than seven miles from the island’s coast on Tuesday evening.

Among the migrants were 29 women, one of whom was pregnant, along with 14 men and nine children.

Ten people have been rushed to hospital with moderate to severe hypothermia, according to Spanish news website El Periodico.  

Dramatic pictures taken dockside showed officials resuscitating a child back to life. 

Six children have been rushed to children’s ward of the nearby Las Palmas de Granaria, one remains in critical condition while five reportedly more have moderate hypothermia.

Spanish Maritime Rescue teams flew a helicopter out to the vessel after spotting it in the water, and noticed that many on board were in need of medical help.

Occupants told officials they had departed from Dakhla, a city in the Western Sahara that is currently occupied by Morocco.
