The Amazing Race stars Chris and Aleisha have a near-death experience

‘I’m going to die’: The Amazing Race stars Chris and Aleisha have a near-death experience while facing one of the scariest challenges yet

It takes guts to be a contestant on The Amazing Race Australia.

But teammates Chris DiLoreto and Aleisha Rose Groth didn’t expect to be so frightened by a challenge that their lives flashed before their very eyes.

They were petrified while trekking Empress Canyon in the NSW Blue Mountains, in scenes set to air on Tuesday night.

The pair had climb rocks and jump into pools, before abseiling down the 37-metre high Empress Falls.

While Chris looked steady on his feet, Aleisha became petrified when faced with jumping into ‘pitch black’ water.

She ‘freaked’ out over plunging into the body of water while the pair navigated through caves.

‘There’s no rocks? I’m not going to break my spine?’ a hesitant Alisha asked.

‘Will you watch that I come back up? I don’t think I can. I can’t do this, no way. I’m going to die,’ she added.

It’s not the only time an Amazing Race star has panicked during a challenge this season.

Jackson Dening, who is competing on the show with Brendon Crawley, had an anxiety attack while counting baby coral in the ‘tank of terror’.

‘First five minutes I was good as gold, but pretty quickly I started getting really claustrophobic and then it just hit me… I was gasping for air the whole time,’ he said.

The fifth season of The Amazing Race premiered on Channel 10 on February 1.

The remaining teams are taking part in challenges across Australia for the chance to win the $250,000 cash prize.
