Police hunt man for assaulting pensioner, 78, in Harlesden

Moment man breaks pensioner’s ribs in ‘brutal’ attack at launderette before telling the victim it was a ’joke’ as police launch new appeal to find him

This is the shocking moment a young thug breaks a pensioner’s ribs during an unprovoked attack in a London launderette. 

Detectives working on the case have re-released CCTV footage of the brutal attack in an effort to track down the man responsible. 

The footage shows the assailant enter the launderette in Harlesden, north west London, before launching the unprovoked attack.

A few minutes after beating the man to the floor, the assailant returned to apologise, even offering the 78-year-old victim £20 in compensation. 

The victim, who is a retired welder, suffered four broken ribs. 

The elderly gentleman was taken from the launderette to hospital where he was treated for a week. 

The incident took place at around 11.30am on Saturday, June 6, 2020. 

According to detectives, the assailant arrived at the scene in a car with two other men, who did not take part in the assault.   

DC Jonny Byswater, from North West Basic Command Unit, who is investigating, said: ‘I would like to continue to ask people to look at the CCTV footage and see if they recognise this man, then do the right thing and contact police.

‘I believe someone out there will recognise this man and be able to tell us who he is. This was a frightening and cowardly attack on an innocent victim and it is imperative we find the person responsible.

‘The victim and his family were left terrified following the callous actions of a man who preyed on a vulnerable, elderly person. We are doing everything we can to get justice for the victim and to make sure those responsible face the consequences of their actions.’
