Brendan Fevola defends his stepdaughter Mia, 21, against slut-shaming trolls

Footy great Brendan Fevola has defended his stepdaughter, Mia, after she was subjected to misogynistic abuse on social media.

The 21-year-old model, who previously dated Richmond premiership-winning player Daniel Rioli for two years, was flooded with slut-shaming comments on Instagram after debuting her romance with rising AFL star Jamarra Ugle-Hagan this week.

Brendan unleashed on his Fifi, Fev and Nick radio show on Tuesday, saying it hurt him deeply to read what trolls were saying about his daughter.

‘As a father, that hurts. That hurts me that they think that of Mia,’ he said. ‘She can date whoever she wants, she can go out with whoever she wants, whenever she wants.’

Brendan later pointed out the trolls’ sexist double standards, saying: ‘Blokes can do whatever they want. They can date girls and no one judges them. It’s a lad thing.’

‘Mia’s been with a couple of football players. That’s okay. People date tradies. That’s their profession,’ he added.

‘Now she’s met this other guy, Jamarra. Great kid. Young boy. And they started dating before he even started playing football. He wasn’t drafted at all.

‘Online yesterday, all the trolls that come out, and the keyboard warriors… slut-shaming my daughter – it’s just not on.’

He revealed Mia had been crying over the abuse she received since going public with Jamarra on Instagram on Monday.

‘That’s her boyfriend, they’ve been together for nearly eight months or something,’ Brendan said.

‘As soon as she goes out and does something like that and posts a picture, you get idiots behind a keyboard – mostly men – hammering her,’ he added.

‘When we were 21, we were doing whatever we wanted. He’s a great kid, she’s a great girl, she’s smart, she’s got her own business, she studies, she’s got a degree, she can do what she wants.

‘It just pisses me off that people can write that and say vile things online about any girl, not just Mia.’
