Grammys 2021: Billie Eilish and brother Finneas O’Connell win award for Bond theme No Time to Die

Billie Eilish and her brother/musical collaborator Finneas O’Connell won a Grammy for her James Bond movie theme No Time to Die on Sunday.

The superstar siblings looked ecstatic as they were announced the winners during the pre-show ceremony, hosted by Trevor Noah, virtually.

‘Oh my God! What?! Thank you so much, that’s so insane,’ the Everything I Wanted hitmaker, 19, gushed. ‘It was a dream to make this song. To work on this. I have no words, I can’t believe this is real.’

After the singer thanked Barbara Broccoli, Hans Zimmer, Daniel Craig and all those involved in the forthcoming spy film, she nudged O’Connell to speak.

‘Thanks Billie for letting me write this song with you. I feel very lucky to be your brother,’ the record producer, 23, said.

Their win made history for being the first time ‘a song for a film not yet released has won,’ according to Variety

According to the outlet, the Grammy soundtrack traditionally ‘disqualifies a song when voters cannot yet see the movie it was written for, but the 2020 pandemic dictated a modification to the usual rule.’

At just 18, at the time, she accepted a total of five awards and became the youngest artist and the first woman to win all four of the awards’ major trophies.

The pair were shocked over winning Best New Artist, Album, Record, and Song of the Year as they truly believed the tracks Truth Hurts and Old Town Road would edge them off in most categories.

‘Yeah, if I’d bet on anyone, I would have lost money in us winning everything,’ the lead singer and songwriter of the band The Slightlys told Vogue in 2020. ‘I was hopeful about album of the year, and that’s one that I’m really proud of, because I love listening to that album front to back.’

‘No, not our sibling dynamic, but it’s changed our ability to go places together, which is too bad. ‘I don’t walk away from this week thinking, ‘I can’t wait to come back in two years and win more,’ he told the publication. ‘I’m just like, ‘We did that.’ Now I’m like, cool, I can focus on other dreams of mine.

He added: ‘I really want to do music work in film and theater in the next five years.’

When reflecting on the historic night, Finneas revealed there is no way to prepare for their winning streak.

‘We were hoping…between the two of us, we had 11 nominations, so we were brave enough to hope that maybe we’d get one,’ he said when asked about expecting a sweep like they had. ‘I would have been thrilled with that.’
