Ruth Langsford revealed she couldn’t hold back the tears when she reunited with her mother on Monday, after almost a year apart.

The TV presenter, 60, and Joan, 88, hugged each other tightly during their reunion as Ruth recalled the touching moment ahead of Mother’s Day.

However the Loose Women star confirmed they will not be spending the celebratory day together on Sunday, due to restrictions on the number of visitors allowed at Joan’s care home.

Back together at last! Ruth Langsford revealed she couldn’t hold back the tears after she reunited with her mother on Monday ahead of Mother’s Day

Ruth spoke to The Mirror about their reunion on Friday: ‘It was lovely. We both cried, but they were happy tears. It was very emotional.

‘It had been a year since we’d been together, but we fell very quickly and very easily back into that relationship we’d had.’

Joan currently resides in a Surrey residential home, just a stone’s throw away from Ruth and husband Eamonn Holmes’ pad.

During their first meeting after a year apart, Ruth revealed they quickly fell back into a routine as she made Joan tea, watered her plants and got her advice on a challenging crossword puzzle.

They also sat down to chat about what’s been on TV while holding onto each other’s hands ‘very tightly’.

According to Ruth, she would miss her mother on Sundays the most as she added: ‘She would always come round here and help me cook lunch. We’d have a sherry, put some music on and dance around.’

Although she’s not allowed to visit on Mother’s Day on Sunday due to coronavirus restrictions, she said she’s allowed to visit once a week as a ‘nominated family member.’

To make up for her absence, Ruth revealed she is arranging for Cornwall daffodils to be delivered to Joan, which she knows she will love.

She added: ‘I’m desperate to get back to how we were, but I do feel it’s coming and I feel more hopeful than I did a couple of months ago.’

Ruth was one of several stars who discussed their relationships with their mother in the piece for The Mirror, alongside Strictly’s Shirley Ballas, actress Kelle Bryan and The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades.

On Tuesday’s Loose Women, Ruth spoke further about her visit with her mum, with her revealing that their meeting was ‘very emotional’ and that she had ‘a little cry’.

The TV star praised her mum and told how she’s been ‘amazing’ during the pandemic, with Ruth describing how she was allowed into her mum’s room and held her hand.

She said: ‘It was very emotional. We had a little cry, of course, but we didn’t want to waste that hour, we didn’t say it to one another, but we just had a little bit of a cry.

Ruth, who received her Covid vaccination last month, explained how they talked while her mother fed Maggie dog biscuits, adding: ‘It was a really really special moment.’

She continued: ‘It was a lovely moment. If that’s happening for you, I’m really happy for you, and if it’s not yet, hopefully it’s coming.’
