John Legend serenades fans from home with H.E.R. and Shakira in virtual Music On a Mission event

John Legend is getting us through the pandemic the best way he knows how.

The EGOT winner recently appeared alongside some talented friends in an event to benefit those in the live music industry impacted by COVID-19.

He serenaded fans from home Friday, as he appeared with H.E.R. and Shakira in the virtual Music On a Mission event, raising money for the Recording Academy’s charitable arm, in place of this year’s MusiCares Person of the Year.

The 42-year-old sat at the piano in his home with wife Chrissy Teigen and their two kids, as he performed U Move, I Move from his seventh studio album Bigger Love.

H.E.R., 23, sported a black beret with a matching black leather jacket, layered over a black turtleneck, as she led a band in front of some explosive graphics.

She performed her track Fight for You, from the movie Judas and the Black Messiah, which recently earned her a Golden Globe nomination.

Shakira, 44, made an appearance to discuss MusiCares’ mission in assisting musicians with financial aid for health crises and other emergencies.

‘This year’s mission feels more urgent,’ the Tiny Dancer artist noted, as Macklemore mused: ‘For me recovery is the most important thing in my life. Without it, I lose everything else.’      

Jhené Aiko, 32, appeared in a sheer orange dress to perform a stripped-down version of Love, from her third studio album Chilombo. 

BTS stole they show as they performed their single Dynamite, which recently earned the group their first Grammy nomination. 

D-Nice, 50, served as DJ for the evening’s festivities, opening the event with Sister Sledge’s Lost in Music.

It included archive footage from past MusiCares events, including Lady Gaga, 34, who covered Carole King’s 1971 classic You’ve Got a Friend.

The Jonas Brothers also performed a cover in one archive clip, as Kevin, 33, Joe, 31, and Nick, 28, performed Aerosmith’s 1993 hit Crazy. 

Another past performance included Usher, 42, paying tribute Lionel Richie’s group The Commodores and their 1981 track Lady. 

Other clips included Bruce Springsteen performing Born to Run and Tom Petty singing Stop Draggin My Heart Around from their respective tribute at past events.

A $25 donation gave fans access to the virtual event, with more than 18,000 viewers bringing in nearly half a million dollars for music industry workers in need. 

It comes after the foundation distributed $24million to about 30,000 music professionals in the past year, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
