The TikToker’s suspicions were already raised when he checked into the accommodation, but then he started hearing things.

‘When I was [asleep] in the middle of the night, I kept hearing a noise from [the air vent] and felt like I was being watched,’ he said.

‘Then I looked [and saw] this the next morning. A whole [other] room hidden.’

In the video, he can be seen walking across the carpet towards the vent. He squats down in front of it and points the camera inside, revealing what looks to be a dark, secret room.

‘Y’all be careful out here!’ he captioned the clip.

The man used the hashtag Richmond, Virginia, to let people know where he was staying, though he didn’t specify the exact location of the Airbnb.

Thousands of people commented on the clip, which had some swearing-off the vacation rental company.

‘You just gave me the creeps omg,’ one person wrote, while another added: ‘This is why I will NEVER do Airbnb.’

‘Airbnbs are so scary, just stay at a hotel, you get 24hr service and it’s safer,’ someone else insisted.

One TikTok user pointed out that there have been a number of stories about people who were allegedly spied on in their Airbnb rentals without their knowledge.

‘Y’all still going to Airbnbs after all these horror stories [with] cameras and people hiding inside??? Y’all are brave,’ the person wrote.

Airbnb hosts are required to disclose if they are using surveillance devices on the property, and they are not allowed to record guests in the bedrooms and bathrooms.

However, multiple Airbnb guests have reported finding hidden cameras in their accommodations over the years.

In 2019, an Airbnb guest made headlines after discovering a hidden camera in the bedroom’s internet router in his accommodations in east China.

The year before that, a British couple found a surveillance device in a digital clock pointed at their bed in their Airbnb rental in Toronto, Canada.

An Airbnb spokesperson has shared a statement with DailyMail.com urging the man who filmed the video to contact the company for further investigation.

‘Although our Support team has not been able to verify that this incident occurred during an Airbnb reservation, we take reported privacy violations very seriously,’ the statement said.

‘We encourage the individual who posted the video to contact us as soon as possible so that we can offer our support and investigate further.’
