Sunrise: Sam Armytage’s very loud dog interrupts her farewell episode

Can someone turn down Banjo? Sunrise producers mic up Sam Armytage’s VERY loud dog during her awkward farewell interview

She’s made no secret of her love for her adopted Labrador, Banjo.

But Sam Armytage may not have appreciated the dog being so vocal during her farewell interview on Sunrise on Thursday.

Her canine companion was breathing heavily as the outgoing anchor recalled how she first met her husband, Richard Lavender.

Sunrise bizarrely cut away to Banjo panting heavily several times during the interview – which covered serious topics like the death of Sam’s mother, Libby, last year.

Sam’s co-host David ‘Kochie’ Koch asked the questions, but seemed distracted by the panting dog, whose breathing was audible throughout.

Sam also kept looking down at Banjo, whom she adopted in 2016.

The pooch went on to interrupt Richard as he talked about falling in love with the TV presenter, by doggedly sniffing at the coffee cup in his lap.

The animal intrusion took place while Sam and Richard discussed how they met.

‘We met at the end of a friend’s birthday party. Right at the end,’ businessman Richard, 61, explained.

‘I remember seeing her, and I got this really nice sort of feeling. ‘I thought, “That’s my girl.”‘

Kochie then asked Richard how he knew Sam was ‘The One’ just by looking at her.

‘It sounds corny, but it was [love at first sight],’ he replied.

Explaining how he arranged a second meeting with Sam, the Bowral farmer said, ‘One of her old school friends was staying with me and the next morning I was cooking breakfast and she came into the kitchen and said, “Can I give you a hand?”

‘And I said “Yes you can, you get me Sam Armytage’s phone number”. And here we are. So that’s the story.’

Sam officially signed off from Sunrise on Thursday, after an impressive eight-year run on Australia’s most popular breakfast show.

Her resignation announcement on Monday followed months of rumours she was preparing to leave Sunrise to spend more time with Richard at his country estate in the Southern Highlands.

Sam’s last day on Sunrise was Thursday, but her $800,000-a-year contract with Seven doesn’t expire until October.

Industry website TV Blackbox reports that newsreader Natalie Barr was expected to take over Sam’s position alongside co-anchor David ‘Kochie’ Koch.
