Riverside seats are fitted facing the WRONG way… giving a view of a hardware store

New benchmark for builders’ blunders! Riverside seats are fitted facing the WRONG way… giving a view of a hardware store

  • Contractors in Andover, Hampshire, installed new benches facing wrong way
  • Set in concrete, the benches were positioned to face the wall of a Wilko store
  • The workers are now set to fix their mistake and turn the seats around, at no cost

Bungling builders were mocked after benches that should have enjoyed a river view were installed facing a brick wall.

Now the contractors are to turn all the seats around, at no extra cost.

Local council leader Phil North said: ‘I couldn’t quite believe it when I visited the site. They were, of course, always designed to face the river. Maybe the contractors are just fans of 1960s architecture.’

Mr North said residents had been in touch in recent days, with one joking: ‘Perhaps they were going to get someone to paint a riverside scene on Wilko’s wall.’

Another added: ‘Should’ve gone to Specsavers.’
