Them trailer reveals the terror within when a black family moves to an all-white neighborhood

A young Black family’s move from North Carolina to an all-white neighborhood of Los Angeles puts their bond to the test in the first trailer for Amazon Studios’ Them.

The show was first announced back in July 2018, when Amazon Studios picked up two seasons of this anthology series from new creator Little Marvin.

The first season of the anthology series, entitled Them: Covenant, is set in Los Angeles in 1953, when a family moves as part of a time known as The Great Migration, when the city of Compton was a predominantly white neighborhood.

The trailer follows a car with a trailer attached to it, with the Emory family driving to their new home.

The family is comprised of parents Henry Emory (Ashley Thomas) and Lucky Emory (Deborah Ayorinde) and their daughters Ruby (Shahadi Wright Joseph) and Gracie (Melody Hurd).

After getting settled in, they’re all seen in bed together reading a bedtime story, before interacting with neighbors like George Bell (Ryan Kwanten) and Betty Wendell (Allison Pill).

The Emory family seems quite happy, dancing together in their living room, while Henry and Lucky also have a newborn seen in bed with them.

But they soon realize that not all is what it seems in this idyllic neighborhood, with Lucky seen looking out the window and finding Betty looking right back at her, standing in the middle of the street.

The trailer takes an even more sinister tone as the song that has been playing throughout the trailer gets stuck in a loop.

Young Gracie is seen examining her closet at night, while all of their white neighbors are seen surrounding their car.

Ruby notices out of her window that several of their neighbors are just sitting on the adjacent lawn, watching them.

Grace is seen being pulled into the closet while we see a number of rather sinister shots, including the bottom of a well while Betty pours milk into a glass.

A number of violent shots are displayed while someone is heard saying, ‘What you gonna do?’ in the background.

The final shot of the trailer features a character that appears to be straight out of a racially-charged minstrel show, with white makeup around his eyes who says, ‘What you gonna do?’
