Katie Price‘s ex-husband Alex Reid allegedly tried to scam a car insurance firm out of £61,000 after ‘knowingly giving a false statement’ about a crash.

The martial artist, 45, sought compensation from Axa after his Audi A6 crashed into a Seat Leon on the A41 in 2018, the Sun reported.

He allegedly claimed a stranger on a motorbike – Darren Summers, 49 – said he would be a witness to the incident after approaching the scene before police arrived.

However, it has since been claimed that the Seat driver’s insurer, Axa, later discovered Price’s ex-husband knew Summers.

An article published a year before the crash reportedly described how Reid – who married model Price in 2010 – had trained Summers for a fight.

The insurance firm reportedly claimed Reid admitted he had lied when challenged.

It is alleged he then withdrew the compensation claim, which included £50,000 and £11,500 in ‘special damages.’

Axa has now applied to the High Court for the case to be committed for a criminal contempt of court hearing, it was reported.

The firm claims Reid ‘knowingly giving a false statement’.

The Celebrity Big Brother winner married model Price in Las Vegas in February 2010, but their relationship was short lived and they divorced 11 months later.

Reid, from Aldershot, is now engaged to Nikki Manashe, 35, and the couple are expecting a baby following a seven-year fertility battle.

The father-of-one revealed last week he has been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome after years of ‘relentless bullying for being different’.

The reality star said the diagnosis helped him to understand why he’s always felt different and called it a ‘relief’ but admitted it was ‘unnerving.’

He told The Mirror: ‘It’s a relief in many ways but it’s a bit unnerving because it’s coming to terms with new things, but it also explains so much.’

Reid also this month dubbed himself an ‘anti-masker’ as he claimed coronavirus can be cured by a ‘positive mindset’.

In an extraordinary interview with FUBAR Radio, the former mixed martial artist admitted he’s ‘not a big buyer’ on the measure, despite scientific evidence proving that face coverings may reduce the spread of the deadly virus.

MailOnline has contacted Reid and Axa for comment.
