Schitt’s Creek star Annie Murphy to join season 2 of Netflix’s Russian Doll

Season 2 of Russian Doll is set to to have a little bit of Alexis. 

Annie Murphy will be joining Natasha Lyonne and the rest of the cast of the Netflix series it was announced on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old Canadian actress won a Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Emmy for her role as Alexis Rose in Schitt’s Creek.

This comes after production for Russian Doll was delayed a full year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with filming on Season 2 starting on March 1 as 41-year-old star Natasha has been seen on the New York set in recent days.

Lyonne stars as a game developer named Nadia Vulvokov, who, after celebrating her 36th birthday, dies and relives her final night in an unrelenting time loop.

The actress co-created the series with showrunner Leslye Headland and Amy Poehler, with all three serving as executive producers on the series.

The show also stars Charlie Barnett as Alan Zaveri, who is also stuck in the same sort of time loop, Greta Lee as Maxine, Rebecca Henderson as Lizzy and Jeremy Bobb as Mike Kershaw.

Oatmeal the cat, whose real name is Louie, was a stray cat who was found at a New York animal sanctuary, according to Vulture

While no story details have been released, there have been details about a new character surfacing in Season 2.

The character’s name hasn’t been released, but entertainment reporter Daniel Richtman described him as a ‘new main character’ and a ‘male love interest.’

He’s said to be ‘charming’ though he, ‘tums out to be a hustler/con artist type’ later in the season.’

The production is seemingly seeking a, ‘young Benicio Del Toro’ type to play this character, with Lyonne said to be, ‘envisioning names like Oscar Isaac or Andre Holland.’

With production just getting started, there is no indication when the season may be ready for fans to check out on Netflix yet. 

 Meanwhile Murphy has been keeping busy since the end of Schitt’s Creek as she is set to star in AMC’s Kevin Can F*ck Himself, which is set to premiere this summer.
