Viewers urge Queen to remove Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal titles after Oprah interview

British viewers called on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to be stripped of their royal titles following their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, with some accusing the couple of being disrespectful to the Queen.

In the biggest royal interview for decades, Meghan made racism claims about Harry’s family whom she claims were worried about how ‘dark’ their child’s skin would be.

The Duchess of Sussex also claimed Kate Middleton made her cry before she married Harry in a row over flowergirl dresses, while Harry said his father Charles stopped taking his calls after he began ‘taking matters into his own hands’.

Harry also branded the institution a ‘trapping’ environment and claimed he felt he had ‘no where to turn to’ when Meghan admitted she was struggling and having suicidal thoughts while pregnant.

Several viewers took to Twitter calling on the couple to be stripped of the Duke and Duchess titles, accusing them of being ‘disrespectful’ to the Queen.

One wrote: ‘Has Meghan just basically called the Royal Family racist? She’s proper trying to stir the pot in this interview isn’t she, that’s Harry’s family. Personally, I think Harry and Meghan’s titles need to be removed. They have gone too far with this.’

Another commented: ‘The Queen needs to strip Harry & Meghan of their titles, remove Harry from the succession, ban them from all State events and deny them any financial support. The family should cut them off. Harry doesn’t care about his family at all. Meghan only cares about attention and money.’

And one remarked: ‘I also feel that both Harry and Meghan should indeed be stripped of their Royal Titles and all benefits associated therewith. End.’

‘Meghan and Harry are an affront to this country, Her Majesty and should have titles stripped immediately,’ tweeted another.

Yesterday it emerged royal aides have discussed whether the Sussexes should lose their titles — with officials warning ‘nothing is off the table’ after their interview with Oprah.

While the subject is yet to be raised with the Queen, whose approval would be required for such a move, Her Majesty was ‘pretty cheesed off’ by Harry and Meghan’s decision to take part in the chat, reports The Times

Courtiers have decided Harry retains the right to be addressed as HRH because it was conveyed on him at birth, and acknowledged stripping his mother Diana, Princess of Wales of hers was ‘a mistake’.

Several viewers remarked they expect the Sussexes will have their titles removed following the sensational interview in which Meghan accused the Royal Family of having ‘concerns’ about ‘how dark’ Archie’s skin would be before he was born because she is mixed-race and Harry is white.

Other commentators questioned why the couple would want to retain them. The Duchess of Sussex described her ‘pain’ that officials had denied him the title of prince and accused Buckingham Palace of failing to protect their son Archie by denying him 24/7 security.

Meghan refused to say which royal had the conversation with Harry about Archie’s skin colour, claiming it would be ‘damaging’ to the person in her husband’s family who raised it.

The Duchess was on the verge of tears when she admitted having suicidal thoughts and told Oprah: ‘I don’t want to be alive anymore.’

When Oprah asked if she was denied the title because he is mixed-race, Meghan replied: ‘In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time, we have in tandem, the conversation of “He won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title,” and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.’

Oprah then interrupted and said: ‘Hold on. Hold up. Stop right now. There’s a conversation… about how dark your baby is going to be?’ Meghan replied: ‘Potentially, and what that would mean or look like.’

‘And you’re not going to tell me who had the conversation?’, Oprah asked. To which Meghan replied: ‘I think that would be very damaging to them. That was relayed to me from Harry. Those were conversations that family had with him.’

Meghan also said she was ‘silenced’ by Buckingham Palace officials and felt lonely in London. She added that she was welcomed by the royals, but then claimed it became more difficult in the run up to the wedding.

In the extraordinary two-hour tell-all watched by tens of millions of people around the world, the Sussexes also revealed they were already planning ‘Megxit’ just six months after they married in May 2018 – and Meghan compared life in Kensington Palace to lockdown in the Covid world today.

The Duke of Sussex also said his family had ‘cut him off’ financially in early 2020, claiming that they had to sign multi-million dollar deals with Netflix and Spotify because he was relying on spending his inheritance from Princess Diana.

Harry also said the couple left because of the media in Britain and because of a ‘lack of support and lack of understanding’ from his family, and revealed that his father refused to speak to him after they left for Vancouver. And in a sign that his relationship with his brother William is strained, claiming he ‘didn’t have anyone to turn to’ and was ‘ashamed’ to admit his wife struggling.

Meghan and Harry’s relaxed attire symbolises their ‘unity and freedom’

Celebrity stylist Rochelle White told FEMAIL: ‘Meghan’s fashion choice for this interview is a stylish Giorgio Armani belted floral-silk midi dress. It was suitable for this type of interview and very flattering on her and her growing bump.

‘She kept her jewellery and accessories minimal with a simple diamond bracelet and stud earrings.

‘Her hair was a tidy/messy bun and keeps her hair off her face but adds contrast to her sleek look.

‘Her make-up is subtle and gives a very natural look which I think is very fitting. She is not looking to gain attention for how she looks and who she is wearing.’

Rochelle added that Harry’s ‘trendy’ light grey suit coupled with a fitted open shirt gives off a ‘relaxed’ feel.

‘It is either the same or very similar to the suit he worn when his son Archie was born and he could be wearing it to symbolise family and unity at this time,’ she said.

‘With that in mind, and the floral design on Meghan’s dress, it could be a way of symbolising their unity and freedom not in words, but in fashion.’
