Two families stand smiling around a birthday cake in a touching photograph – but now one of the fathers is accused of murdering the happy couple and child on the other side of the table.

Mehmet Serif Boga, 29, a married father of two, allegedly murdered his ex-business partner Ilkay Tokkal, 42, his wife Emel Tokkal, 41, and their four-year-old son, Ali Doruk at their apartment in Eskisehir, Turkey, on February 15.

Forensic evidence reportedly placed Boga, 29, at the scene of the crime, leading to his arrest.

Bloody socks and shoes matching DNA samples taken from the crime scene were found at Boga’s house, officials said.

CCTV footage allegedly showed Boga going to the family’s apartment on the night of the crime wearing work gloves and boots.

He was also said to be sporting a hoodie and face mask to try to obscure his identity.

According to the authorities, he had dinner with the family and spent a total of 73 minutes at the flat before leaving.

He was reportedly wearing Ilkay’s clothes while carrying his own bloodied clothes in a bag when he left the property.

He took a convoluted route home in a supposed attempt to avoid being detected by CCTV.

The motive for the alleged crime has not been revealed, and Boga awaits trial. He denies all charges against him.

Local media reported that Tokkal’s daughter Beyzanur Kayaalp, who lives in the city of Izmir, called the police for help in February when she was unable to reach her mother over the phone.

When authorities found the family slain in their apartment, they said Ilkay had been stabbed seven times, while Emel and Doruk were stabbed three times, according to the Turkish newspaper Posta.

The daily added that the suspect turned the apartment lights off before leaving the scene of the crime and taking off in a taxi.
