John Krasinski reveals his delayed sequel A Quiet Place II will arrive on Memorial Day weekend

Nearly a year after his highly-anticipated sequel A Quiet Place II was pushed from its March 2020 release date, the sequel is finally coming this summer.

Writer-director-star John Krasinski took to Twitter on Thursday evening, revealing that his long-delayed sequel will arrive on May 28, over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

It remains to be seen if a new trailer or poster will be released between now and the new release, though Krasinski did release a cryptic teaser image.

‘They always say good things come to those who wait. Well… I think we’ve waited long enough. A QUIET PLACE PART II MEMORIAL DAY,’ Krasinski said.

The sequel was originally slated for release on March 20, 2020, with Paramount initially stating they would not push the release.

However, just a week before it was supposed to hit theaters, Paramount pulled it from its release schedule, as theaters across the country shut down.

It was first delayed to September 4, but as theaters were still closed, it was pushed again to April 23, 2021.

Back in January, when COVID-19 cases surged all across America, the studio pushed the sequel yet again to September 17, 2021.

It seems Paramount has more confidence that more theaters will be open by May, with roughly 65% of the nation’s theaters still closed at this moment.

However, New York City theaters are slated to open tomorrow, though it’s unclear when theaters in major markets like Los Angeles, where theaters have been closed for almost a full year, will re-open.

Krasinski directed and starred in the 2018 sleeper hit A Quiet Place alongside his wife Emily Blunt and Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe as their on-screen kids.

The film followed their family as they adapted to a new world where alien predators hunt by sound, after wiping out most of humanity.

The sequel follows the family as they venture outside of their quite home in the woods, and discover there are more dangerous threats besides these monsters.

Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou are among the new cast members in the sequel, which Krasinski returns to direct from his own script, based on characters created by A Quiet Place writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods.

As of now, barring any COVID-19-related changes, A Quiet Place II will square off against Disney’s Cruella starring Emma Stone and Paramount’s Infinite starring Mark Wahlberg. 

It was also recently confirmed that A Quiet Place II will be available to stream on the Paramount Plus streaming service 45 days after it debuts in theaters.
