Two chefs have been praised for their hilarious response to an influencer who asked for five free meals during lockdown.

Four Legs, a chef duo who serve at The Compton Arms in Islington, London, received a direct message on Instagram from an influencer who wanted free food.

Blogger Christopher Jesse Okon, who boasts 50,000 followers, said he was hoping to get free food for himself and four people in his ‘bubble’ in exchange for featuring Four Legs on social media.

But the plan quickly backfired after Four Legs, consisting of chefs Ed McIlroy and Jamie Allan, lured him in by asking him to pick up food from the restaurant, but gave him directions to a nearby police station instead for ‘crimes against the hospitality industry’.

Sharing the exchange of messages to Instagram, Four Legs wrote: ‘Been reading a lot about the peasant’s revolt recently. Inspiring stuff.’

Christopher’s first message read: ‘I am reaching out to ask if it would be possible to have a takeaway and in exchange for this I’ll be happy to advertise you via my Instagram stories alongside a swipe up link if you have a website to direct my followers to your website in the hope of it leading to an order? Let me know if keen?’

Appearing to agree to the request, the chefs asked the blogger if he would be able to ‘pick up’ the order from Tolpuddle Street in Islington, to which Christopher said he could and asked if he could have five free meals.

Four Legs responded: ‘That’s quite a lot of food, if you could do a couple of posts then we can do it – you’ve got a lot of followers.’

The influencer insisted that he would share ‘many stories’ about Four Legs’s pop-up restaurant and also post Four Legs’ website on his main Instagram feed after lockdown.

He continued: ‘I’ll for sure do many stories absolutely and also happy to take a screenshot of your website showcasing the menus and also including this to, and happy to also do a feed post when you open up to make up for this but we can cross that bridge as and when we come to it.’

Four Legs then told Christopher to let them know when he had arrived at the agreed pick-up point, saying his request was ‘really appreciated’.

While giving the influencer directions, the chefs asked him to send them a message once he had seen the ‘police station’.

After Christopher had confirmed that he had reached the police station, the two chefs hysterically responded: ‘Magic – go in there and report yourself for crimes against the hospitality industry’

The amusing message exchange quickly racked up floods of comments and almost 30,000 likes from people who lauded the chefs' response as 'golden'
