Andy Lee reveals he turned down Dancing With The Stars as he gets ready to host The Cube

Andy Lee reveals why he turned down Dancing With The Stars to host new game show The Cube instead

Back in December, Andy Lee was announced as the host on Channel 10’s new game show, The Cube.

And now the comedian has admitted to rejecting an offer to host Channel Seven’s reboot of Dancing With The Stars to do The Cube instead.

In an interview with the TV Reload podcast, the 39-year-old said, ‘Hamish and I, when Darryl Summers finished up on Dancing With The Stars, got asked to host it… I don’t know when that was.’

Not interested: Andy Lee turned down an offer to host Dancing With The Stars to do The Cube instead

‘We did not have to think long to say no because neither of us dance,’ he said of himself and fellow host Hamish Blake.

‘I like the show but it wasn’t the type of show for two twenty year fellas to suddenly do,’ he continued.

‘And I think they went with Dan MacPherson which was a much better person to go with.’

Based on the UK series of the same name, The Cube will see contestants put in a small perspex cube where they must take on a series of tasks in the hopes of winning $250,000.

His new gig is putting him in direct competition with best pal Hamish who is signed to Channel Nine as he hosts the high-rated Lego Masters.

However, he has the support of Channel 10 bosses who have given him the nod of approval.

Head of programming at 10 ViacomCBS, Daniel Monaghan, said: ‘Andy Lee is one of the most popular and talented comedians in Australia, and we are thrilled he will host this brilliant series.

‘The Cube has been a huge success in the UK for years, and to bring this edge-of-your-seat game show to Australia for a local prime time version, with Andy Lee no less, is a fantastic addition to our 2021 schedule.’
