Demi Lovato reveals she ‘accidentally’ lost weight as she talks about ditching toxic ‘diet culture’

She recently revisited some of the darker times in her life, but on Monday she said she was ‘full of peace, serenity, joy, and love’.

Demi Lovato posted a lovely and confident post to her Instagram feed on Monday, in which she was seen standing in front of a mirror showing off her slim waistline in a pair of athletic pants that were too large.

The Heart Attack hitmaker, 28, explained that she’d ‘accidentally lost weight’ by not obsessing over food or exercise and rejecting toxic ‘diet culture.’

Demi smiled as she sported her new pixie cut along with a dark t-shirt, which she bunched up under her arm to show off more of her toned midsection.

The former Disney Channel star – who has been frank about her struggles with eating disorders – pulled the elastic waistband of her blue pants away from her body, showing how large they were on her now.

She turned to the side and preened in the mirror, smiling contentedly.

The video also featured a sparkly filter.

In a text box beneath her in the video, Lovato wrote: ‘Accidentally lost weight’

‘I don’t count calories anymore. I don’t over exercise anymore. I don’t restrict or purge. And I especially I don’t live my life accordingly to the diet culture.. [sic] and I’ve actually lost weight.

‘This is a different experience. But I feel full. Not of food. But of divine wisdom and cosmic guidance Peace Serenity Joy And love.’

She concluded with a sparkly heart emoji.

And in the caption for the post, Demi reiterated the sentiment, writing, ‘I am full of peace, serenity, joy, and love today’.

The post came after a different selfie video from Sunday night, which saw the Confident songstress wearing a tie-dye hoodie and yellow baseball cap.

In that clip, Demi was using a bunch of ‘beauty filters’ which gave her skin an especially alabaster and smooth complexion and extreme contouring.

She tilted her head this way and that, puckered her shiny lips and then revealed her pearly whites in a large smile.

She included several text bubbles on the video, the largest of which read, ‘Unrealistic beauty expections [sic] w these filters got me like:

‘*These aren’t my real eyes*’ ‘*My skin is not the smooth*’ ‘Thank God I’m realizing this now and I’m sorry for using them w/o realizing how dangerous they were before’ ‘How are teens supposed to learn to except themselves with this sh*t’

The pop star is offering an intimate look into her life following her near-fatal 2018 overdose and subsequent sobriety journey via her new project, Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil.

And Lovato thinks sharing her story could inspire others to confront their demons, telling Ellen DeGeneres last month she wants to be a ‘role model’ to those who have made mistakes just like her.

‘I talk about a lot [in the docuseries],’ Demi said. ‘The world has been so loving and accepting of me telling my story and just, there’s been so much love and support.’

‘What’s great is we live in a time when nobody’s perfect, and we’re not gonna get role models by watching people not make mistakes.’

‘We are going to meet and learn from our role models who have overcome their deepest darkest struggles,’ she went on. ‘…I wanted to show everyone — first I wanted to set the record straight.’

Demi said she wanted to correct things since ‘a lot of stories were going around that time that didn’t really know what exactly had happened’ after her overdose.

‘I just wanted to tell the world, “Hey, this is what happened, this is how I got through it, and hopefully this can help you too,”‘ she said. ‘Because this journey has been such a wild ride but I’ve learned so much and I can’t wait to share it with the world.’
