Chris Hemsworth’s 80s party sparks fierce backlash from US and UK fans

Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky attended a star-studded ’80s-themed party in Sydney over the weekend.

But when the Hollywood actor shared images from the event, which featured A-list guests mingling in fancy dress, some fans were immediately outraged.

The Thor star, 37, sparked fierce backlash from his US and UK followers who accused him of being ‘a bad example’ and ‘selfish’ and ‘elitist’.

‘Isn’t there a pandemic?!’ Chris Hemsworth’s fun 80s party photos sparks fierce backlash from US and UK fans who fail to comprehend why no masks were worn at the A-list Sydney event

Short answer yes: Australia does have coronavirus, but there have been less than 15 confirmed cases per day for the past month, while during the same period the US has recorded more than 28,000 per day and more than 7,000 per day in the UK

Chris was all smiles in the party photos, flashing his bulging biceps in a singlet top and Adidas trackpants.

While his muscles were enough to distract some, others quickly questioned why guests weren’t wearing masks or social distancing amid the global pandemic.

‘Isn’t there a pandemic?’ one fan snarkily wrote, as others simply asked where all the masks were.

‘Do you not have coronavirus in Australia?’ another baffled follower questioned.

However, in-the-know fans and fellow Australian residents began furiously defending Chris in the comments and educating the US and UK fans who were confused.

‘Say you’re from the USA without saying you’re from the USA * reads comment section *,’ one comedic post read, as another simple sarcastically commented: ‘*cries in American*.’

‘Imagine a country implementing orders that strictly removed a virus & being able to party like it is 2019,’ another joked.

Australia has not recorded more than 15 confirmed cases of Covid-19 per day for the past month, while during the same period the US has recorded more than 28,000 per day and the UK has recorded more than 7,000 per day since February 1.

Australia began strict lockdown measures and border closures/checks across all of its states and territories shortly after the coroanvirus was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2020.

In Sydney, where the party was held, masks are only mandatory on public transport (including taxis and ride-sharing services) and at the airport.

As of 26 February 2021, parties held at a place like the 80s party would not be able to exceed a maximum capacity of 50 people with a ban on dance floors.

Joining the A-list affair was American actor Matt Damon and English actor Idris Elba, who are among a growing list of well-known celebrities to have fled worsening conditions overseas for a life in Australia.

A slew of famous faces have ditched their homes overseas in favour of Australia amid the pandemic, with celebrities such as Zac Efron, Natalie Portman, Tom Hanks and Rita Ora all flying over to film various projects.

Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence is expected to arrive in Australia next month to prepare for production of Marvel’s latest Fantastic Four film.

It’s believed Julia Roberts and Sean Penn are also headed Down Under to film a new political thriller in Sydney titled ‘Gaslit’ in the coming weeks.
