‘I hate myself for it’: Ryan Thomas reveals he is ‘finding any excuse to have a drink’ and can binge on TWO bottles of red wine a night

Ryan Thomas has spoken out about how he is finding any ‘excuse to have a drink’ and has horrific hangovers after binging on two bottles of red wine a night.

The former Coronation Street star, 36, revealed how he boozes heavily at the weekend, making him feel down and ‘wiped out’ in the week.

Talking to his tee-total brother Scott, 32, and other sibling Adam, also 32, in the latest episode of Mancs On The Mic podcast, Ryan said how he struggles to stop after having one drink.

He said: ‘I really want to get to that point where I go “do you know what like I’m going on holiday and I’m going away with the lads for a long weekend and I’m going to enjoy this blowout because I deserve it”.

‘But I don’t deserve it because I’m literally finding any excuse to have a drink.

‘It’s like, you know, everything all or nothing for me. It’s not a couple of drinks, I’ll have two bottles of red wine and then I’m like “why?”.

‘I’ve got to get up tomorrow, I’ve got a routine with Roman and Lucy. I’ve got commitments, I’ve got jobs that I need to be focused for.

‘I’ve got to go right here’s my end goal, I deserve this drink, it’s my drink, my reward and that’s what I want it to become. At the moment I’m still tackling it. It just wipes me out for the whole week.

‘I used to bounce back at 18 or 19. I didn’t have hangovers but now I’m just so down in the week for drinking at the weekend.

‘I hate myself for it.’

Ryan’s confession comes eight months after his younger brother Scott detailed his difficult relationship with alcohol and how him making a ‘living as a party boy’ made him a ‘completely different person’.

Alongside several video clips of himself working out, Scott wrote: ‘Special moment for me today! Celebrating 6 months no alcohol and finally reaching my goal of the best shape of my life.

‘Before I go on I just want to say massive thank you to my PT for getting me to this point. This may come as a surprise to a lot of you as it’s not something I’ve often talked about.

‘For years I’ve always battled with my relationship to alcohol. I made a living out of being a party boy and although I didn’t drink often when I did I would always take it too far and become a different person.

‘I’ve battled with this for years and although I’ve not had a bad life at all and always done ‘well’ so to speak there was always an underlying feeling of not reaching my potential.

‘I saw a therapist for years over this called Gareth who was a massive help in giving me perspective and I still check in with him once a month even now.’

The television personality said he made a decision at the end of last year to be completely sober for 2020 because his drunk behaviour started to ‘jeopardise’ his business.

Scott said he is now in a ‘much better place’ both in his personal life and business.
