Dr Alex George has stated that reality stars need to be ‘role models’ after they faced backlash for jetting to Dubai in lockdown.
The former Love Island star, 30, said influencers should be ‘sharing the right message’ by reminding their followers to adhere to Covid restrictions, after many defended their trips under the ruse that they were ‘essential work.’
Speaking on ITV’s Peston on Wednesday, Alex said: ‘It’s tricky I’m a big believer that you can only control what’s in your own sphere of influence.’

He added: ‘But I think it’s important we all share, we all give out the right message we all do our bit everyone’s trying to stay at home keeping everyone safe.
‘Come on let’s show the right messages and be a positive role model.’
Dr Alex has been praised for working tirelessly as a doctor on the NHS frontline during the pandemic, alongside campaigning for mental health awareness after his brother Llŷr’s tragically took his own life in 2020.

The star previously stated that he believes some of his Love Island co-stars are being ‘unfairly tarnished’ and aren’t worthy of criticism.
‘I think there’s this tarnished thing of what an islander would be and is and all this stuff, and I think sometimes that’s unfair,’ he told Metro. ‘There’s a lot of people trying to do their best.’
‘Look at Camilla [Thurlow], and the way she has behaved afterwards. There are a lot of people out there who are trying to be positive influences after the show. To assume that everyone only cares about making a quick buck I think is quite unfair.
‘I do think if you do go on Love Island you’ve got to bear those kinds of things in mind, and the challenges that come with that.’

A slew of reality TV stars and influencers have been trolled online after being slammed by Home Secretary Priti Patel for jetting abroad under the ruse of a ‘work trip’ despite strict COVID-19 travel rules.
Many stars, such as Chloe Ferry, Arabella Chi and Ellie Brown, have since returned home while other celebrities including Georgia Harrison, Gabby Allen and Amber Gill have insisted they’re living in the UAE and so haven’t broken travel rules.
After Dubai joined UK’s travel ban list, celebrities including Chloe Sims have been flocking to Mexico’s bars and beaches as it establishes itself as the latest COVID getaway destination.
The country appears to be the new destination of choice for global jet-setters and could rocket in popularity.
Travel abroad is now banned from the UK without a legally permitted reason, Home Secretary Priti Patel announced last month, as she criticised influencers for ‘showing off in sunny parts of the world’.
Many stars insisted their trips are for ‘work purposes’, with several influencers forced to hit back at fans after they were criticised for jetting off on holiday during the global pandemic.
