Married At First Sight: Bryce and Melissa expose fame-seeking co-stars

Married At First Sight’s Bryce Ruthven and Melissa Rawson expose fame-seeking co-stars live on Today Extra – including one groom who is definitely not ‘there for the right reasons’

Channel Nine have persistently said this year’s season of Married At First Sight would have less desperate fame-seekers and more ‘genuine’ participants.

But newlyweds Melissa Rawson and Bryce Ruthven seem to think some of the 2021 stars are more interested in growing their Instagram following than finding love.

Appearing on Tuesday’s Today Extra, Bryce and Melissa, both 31, expressed their disappointment at some cast mates’ desire to be famous.

‘First thing I noticed was how genuine about 98 per cent of the guys were coming through. There was one I don’t think is there for the right reasons and I make not secret of that throughout the experiment,’ Bryce said.

When asked to elaborate, he cheekily suggested: ‘He looks like Eminem… we’ll go with that.’

It’s been known that some fans have likened Sam Carraro, 32, to the rapper on social media.

Melissa also chimed in to say: ‘I could definitely see that some people may have come on just looking for fame. It’s really hard because when you do come on the experiment for really genuine reasons it feels like you’re fighting a losing battle and kind of defeats the purpose.’

Meanwhile, Bryce’s job as a radio announcer in Canberra means he often rubs shoulders with celebrities and reality TV stars.

He interviewed several cast members from last year’s season, including Josh Pihlak and Michael Goonan, for his radio program in 2020.

Daily Mail Australia reported in September that Bryce had actually reached out to former MAFS participants to ask them for advice about applying for the show.

One former cast member said they were surprised to see Bryce on the Nine reality show because he was well aware of the negative experience they’d had.

‘Off air Bryce kept asking questions about whether it was worth signing up to the show and said he was really keen to give it ago,’ they claimed.
