No more Buffy: Sarah Michelle Gellar was spotted on an outing just days after admitting she feels ‘too long in the tooth’ to participate in a Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot

Gellar paired the athletic look with black, white and pink Nike sneakers and aviator shades as she walked across a parking lot.

She kept her hair down in a casual ‘do and made safety a priority by sporting not one, but two face coverings to protect from getting COVID-19.

The Foodstirs co-founder had her purse hanging over her left shoulder, keeping the strap tied across her body to stop it from falling.

The excursion marked Sarah’s first public appearance since saying she has ruled herself out of returning in the titular role of Buffy Summers in any reboots of the hit TV series.

Appearing on the On with Mario Lopez podcast, Gellar said the premise of the show requires a teenager playing that character.

‘I’m a wee bit, how do they say, long in the tooth for that,’ as ‘what worked for Buffy was that the monsters represented, they were a metaphor for the horrors of adolescence,’ she added.

She continued: ‘I do think that story lends itself, it’d be interesting to see how a chosen one would deal with that. I don’t think it’s me, I don’t think I should be the one doing it.’

Gellar, who played Buffy from 1997 to 2003, noted that she’s ‘way too tired and cranky to put in that work again,’ albeit satisfied that the show has made such an impact.

‘I love that the story holds up, and that people are calling for that,’ said Gellar, who recently spoke in support of her former co-star Charisma Carpenter, who has made allegations against show creator Joss Whedon that he created a toxic work environment on set.

Gellar posted on Instagram: ‘While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon.

‘I am more focused on raising my family and surviving a pandemic currently, so I will not be making any further statements at this time. But I stand with all survivors of abuse and am proud of them for speaking out.’

In her original social media post, Charisma accused Whedon of ‘abusing his power’ as the show’s creator and executive producer.

She wrote: ‘Joss Whedon abused his power on numerous occasions while working together on the sets of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel. While he found his misconduct amusing, it only served to intensify my performance anxiety, disempower me, and alienate me from my peers.

‘The disturbing incidents triggered a chronic physical condition from which I still suffer. It is with a beating, heavy heart that I say I coped in isolation and, at times, destructively.’

Charisma also claimed Whedon called her ‘fat’ when she was pregnant, and claimed he would often try to ‘pit’ cast members against each other to ‘compete and vie for his attention and approval.’

Buffy stars speak out on allegations against Joss Wheadon

Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers): ‘While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon. I am more focused on raising my family and surviving a pandemic currently, so I will not be making any further statements at this time. But I stand with all survivors of abuse and am proud of them for speaking out’

Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase): ‘For nearly two decades, I have held my tongue and made excuses for certain events that traumatize me to this day. Joss Whedon abused his power on numerous occasions while working together on the sets of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. While he found his misconduct amusing, it only served to intensify my performance anxiety, disempower me and alienate me from my peers. The disturbing incidents triggered a chronic physical condition from which I still suffer. It is with a beating, heavy heard that I say I coped in isolation and, at times, destructively’

David Boreanaz (Angel): To Carpenter, ‘I am here for you to listen and support you. Proud of your strength’

Amber Benson (Tara Maclay): ‘Buffy was a toxic environment and it starts at the top. @AllCharisma is speaking truth and I support her 100%. There was a lot of damage done during that time and many of us are still processing it twenty plus years later. #IStandWithRayFisher #IStandWithCharismaCarpenter’

Anthony Head (Rupert Giles): ‘It’s just, I am gutted, I’m seriously gutted, because one of my memories, my fondest memories of Buffy, was the fact that it was so empowering, not just in the words of the script, but the family feel of the show … I’m really sad if people went through these experiences that they didn’t… I was a sort of like a father figure and I would hope that someone would come to me and say, “I’m struggling” or “I just had a horrible conversation”‘

Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn Summers): ‘Thank you @sarahmgellar for saying this. I am brave enough now as a 35 year old woman….To repost this. Because. This must. Be known. As a teenager. With his not appropriate behavior….very. Not. Appropriate … There was a rule, saying [Whedon] is not allowed in a room alone with Michelle again’

James Marsters (Spike): ‘While I will always be honored to have played the character of Spike, the Buffy set was not without challenges. I do not support abuse of any kind, and am heartbroken to learn of the experiences of some of the cast. I send my love and support to all involved’

Eliza Dushku (Faith): ‘CC, my heart aches for you and I’m so sorry you have held this for so long. Your post was powerful, painful, and painted a picture we’ll collectively never un-see or un-know.’

Marti Noxon (writer and executive producer): ‘I would like to validate what the women of Buffy are saying and support them in telling their story. They deserve to be heard. I understand where [Charisma], Amber, Michelle and all the women who have spoken out are coming from.’
