Overdue Sam Quek shows off her baby bump in a Liverpool FC shirt and says she hopes the Merseyside Derby is ‘exciting enough help things along’

She’s eagerly anticipating welcoming her overdue baby girl to the world.

And Sam Quek, 32, hoped Saturday’s Merseyside derby would be just the kick her little one needed to finally make an appearance.

The Olympic gold medallist, who is 40 weeks and two days pregnant, showed off her baby bump in a Liverpool FC shirt, as she shared a smiling snap ahead of the football match.

The hockey player posed on a yoga ball in her beloved Reds shirt and black leggings, and tied her dark brown tresses up in a high pony.

The mum-to-be captioned the photo: ‘It’s Derby Day and I’m 40wks+2!

‘Hoping for an exciting one to help things along. #LiveEve #YNWA #LFC #40Weeks.’

Liverpool fans were quick to joke with the glowing mum-to-be about her pregnancy going into stoppage time.

One wrote: ‘Now how are we going to win if you have the match ball up your shirt?’ and another suggested: ‘You look fab Sam! Your bubba just didn’t want to interrupt Derby Day.’

Whenever she arrives, the newborn will be a most welcome addition for the Celebrity Masterchef finalist and her husband Tom Mairs, who has appeared on Secret Millionaire.

Sam married the property developer at Chester Racecourse in 2018 after getting engaged in Tenerife the previous year.

Her I’m a Celeb co-stars featured heavily on the guest list, and she even did a karaoke duet with Carol Vorderman at the reception.

Sam revealed the pregnancy to OK Magazine in November, saying: ‘It’s been quite surreal because we’ve kept it private. Being able to talk about it, it now feels real. I’m really, really excited.’

But she also shared the happy news came after some trying times for the couple, who had suffered a miscarriage earlier in the year.

Sam said: ‘I didn’t want to speak to anyone. I had guilt and shame that it was my fault,’ Sam explained of the devastating time.

‘I was looking back at everything I did during pregnancy and replaying every single minute. I put it all on me and my body. But I never said that to Tom at the time.’

The pair now seem happier than ever, and ‘can’t wait’ to meet their first child.

Sam won gold with the Team GB field hockey team in Rio in 2016, and penned an autobiography about her career, Sam Quek: Hope and a Hockey Stick, which was released in 2018.
