Bette Midler reveals she got to see a lost photo of her 1984 wedding in Las Vegas five years ago

Legendary actress and singer Bette Midler and her husband Martin von Haselberg celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary this past December 16.

The couple tied-the-knot in a spur-of-the-moment ceremony at a 24-hours a day chapel in Las Vegas in 1984, without any photographic evidence of their nuptials for more than three decades.

But during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday, Midler revealed she and her husband were able to get their first look at a photo from their actual wedding day, just five years ago.

It turns out the First Wives Club star proposed to von Haselberg, and they wasted little time in heading on over to the Starlight Chapel in Las Vegas.

While in a rush to make it to the chapel, Midler didn’t like her soon-to-be husband’s suit and had him change outfits before they walked down the aisle.

‘My wedding was two people — my husband and me — and, of course, the Elvis impersonator that married us,’ she revealed during Tuesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

‘We eloped to Vegas so we had nobody except the Elvis impersonator.’

‘He had a tape of Nino Rota music from Juliet Of The Spirits and we walked down the aisle and the Elvis impersonator did the ceremony and then we walked out,’ the Wind Beneath My Wings singer said of the ceremony.

‘And the funny thing is that there were no cell phones, of course, in 1984 and we had no pictures.’

But it turns out there was, in fact, someone from the chapel who took photos of the couple when they exchanged their nuptials.

‘Apparently there was a photographer there and when the Starlight Chapel closed its doors, which was about five years ago, they sent us the pictures,’ Midler said, while admitting they didn’t buy the photo package available at the chapel.

‘We’d never seen the pictures.’

The multiple Tony, Grammy and Emmy-winning performer had only broached the subject of her wedding when she gushed over her daughter Sophie von Haselberg’s recent nuptials with Harry J. N. Guinness in June 2020.

Taking a little more time to plan than her parents, the couple had a small wedding of about 11 people amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘Of course, we were over the moon and we started talking about it and we divided it up,’ Midler said.

‘My husband did the food. I did the flowers. They asked their friends to join the Universal Life to become ministers, and they wrote their own vows,’ she said with obvious pride and joy.

‘It was so sweet; so sweet.’

Despite being a world renowned singer, Midler confessed her daughter didn’t ask her to sing at her ceremony and party.
