Hugh Bonneville looked unrecognisable during an appearance on The One Show on Wednesday night as he appeared via a video link with a ‘weird’ filtered face. 

The 57-year-old actor’s flawless appearance drew attention from viewers as they watched him talk about the film To Olivia, in which he plays Roald Dahl. 

Fans soon took to Twitter to comment on Hugh’s youthful appearance, with some joking he he had been in a ‘space time vortex from the 1980s’, while others said it looked like he had smeared his screen with vaseline.

One wrote: ‘Hugh Bonneville was on the one show other night and I never knew he wears too much makeup on screen as didn’t recognise him,’ while another added: ‘Is that a CGI image of Hugh Bonneville on the one show?’

Hugh is best known for his role in Downton Abbey as Robert Crawley – a role he reprised in the Downton Abbey film which came out last year.

This role has won him two Emmy nominations and, along with fellow cast members, won three SAG Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama.

The actor has lost a considerable amount of weight throughout lockdown and sent fans into a frenzy when he debuted his transformation when he appeared on The One Show last year.

Hugh later showed off his epic transformation once again in a snap shared on Twitter as he met up with his best friend from university for a drink. 

Hugh stars in the Sky Original film To Olivia with Keeley Hawes and it will be released on Friday.

The Paddington star and the 44-year-old actress will play legendary children’s author Roald Dahl and his American actress wife Patricia Neal in the Sky Cinema original movie.

Based on a true story, the film is set in 1962 and follows Dahl and Neal as they have retreated to the English countryside to bring up their expanding young family.

Their lives are tragically turned upside down by the death of their daughter Olivia. As the couple struggle through the unimaginable loss, their shared grief becomes a source of redemption and strength which changes their lives forever.

John Hay has directed the film, which features an all British cast including Sam Heughan, the late Geoffrey Palmer and Conleth Hill.
