Liev Schreiber films car scenes for Across The River And Into The Trees in Venice

He is said to have undergone further knee surgery earlier this month after injuring himself during a fight scene.

And Liev Schreiber was pictured getting stuck into filming duties on Wednesday as he continues to shoot Across The River And Into The Trees in Venice, Italy.

The actor, 53, donned military uniform as he transformed into his character Colonel Richard Cantwell.

Liev was joined by co-star Josh Hutcherson as they filmed vintage car scenes in a classic Buick motor.

The actor was seen in the back of the vehicle while Josh took the wheel to shoot the scenes in Venice’s Fossalta di Piave. 

Set in post WW2 Venice, US Army Col. Cantwell, who is haunted by the war, is a hero who faces news of his illness with stoic disregard.

Determined to spend a weekend in quiet solitude, he commandeers a military driver to facilitate a visit to some of his old haunts in Venice.

As Cantwell’s plans begin to unravel, a chance encounter with a remarkable young woman begins to rekindle in him the hope of renewal.  

In the film, The Undoing’s Matilda De Angelis plays an 18-year-old Italian contessa called Renata. Liev’s character falls in love with her.  

Based on the last full-length novel by Ernest Hemingway, the movie captures a fleeting moment of immortality where time stands still. 

It comes after Liev reportedly had to undergo further surgery on his leg after injuring himself during a fight scene while he was filming for Across The River And Into The Trees.

The actor was pictured hobbling on crutches earlier this month as he headed to the doctors in Veneto, where he is said to have undergone keyhole surgery before returning to Venice in the evening.  

Back in January, the actor told a fan on Twitter he had just had knee surgery and he is said to have aggravated the injury further after filming a fight scene.
