Bethany Hamilton calls son Micah’s birth a ‘blessing’ and ‘miracle’ after welcoming her third child

Surfer Bethany Hamilton is now a mom of three.

The athlete, 31, announced the arrival of her baby boy on Tuesday, revealing her bundle of joy was born on Valentine’s Day. 

‘It’s a boy! His name is Micah,’ the Unstoppable star wrote in the caption of the YouTube announcement. ‘Mama is happy and healthy. We are just so thankful that everything went really smooth!

Bethany, who famously survived a brutal shark attack while took her left arm in 2003, went on to say: ‘It’s an amazing blessing, the birthing process and the miracle of life that God has given. 

‘We are humbled and thankful that we get another opportunity to raise a son in his faith. Hopefully we can be good examples and love on him.’

The pro surfer and husband of six-years Adam Dirks announced they were expecting back in October of 2020.

At the time, she took to Instagram to share: ‘Grateful for more family fun to come.’

Another snap of her on the beach with her older sons Tobias, five, and Welsey, two, was captioned: ‘Every blessing comes from above. The boys have both gotten to feel baby kicking and they are pumped big brothers!’

In a clip uploaded Tuesday to YouTube, the surfing’s star husband, 42, gave fans an update on how his family was doing, calling his newborn son a ‘perfect Valentine’s present.

‘I know you guys are probably really wanting to see Bethany and the little baby … they’re resting sleeping, the boys have been excited, we made birthday cookies and now they’re going with grandma to go play,’ he said.

Dirks, who past competed on The Amazing Race, said that the couple received the ‘amazing blessing’ of a healthy birth: ‘Everything went really smooth, mom is happy, she’s healthy, we’re so thankful that everything went smooth.

‘It’s really just an amazing blessing, it’s incredible – the birthing process and the miracle of life God has given – and we’re humbled and we’re thankful that we get another opportunity to raise our son and his faith and be good examples and love on him.’

Hamilton talked about parenthood with USA Today in 2018, telling the publication: ‘Life changes so much in a beautiful way with having kids.’

‘I love my two little guys, they are such a joy in my life, but I am also really excited to keep pushing my surfing. 

‘It’s been an incredible journey to try to balance the two, really putting motherhood first but still be able to push my surfing.

‘I started working on my fitness when my youngest … turned two months old. I worked with a trainer to just kind of ease my body back into it.’ 

And Bethany is already anxious to get back into the water following Micah’s birth.

In a February 10th Instagram post, days ahead of his birth, she admitted she was ‘literally counting down the days, maybe 6-8weeks or so, till I can get back on my board and surf!’

‘Excited to keep the momentum going and have fun in the ocean!’ she added at the time. ‘But first… have this baby, enjoy baby and then bring baby to the beach haha.’
