True Blood hunk Ryan Kwanten looks VERY different these days as he promotes new post-apocalyptic sci-fi film 2067

The Australian actor gained a legion of fans playing hunky sheriff deputy Jason Stackhouse in True Blood.

And on Tuesday, Ryan Kwanten looked a world away from his days on the popular HBO vampire series.

The 44-year-old was in high spirits as he appeared on Channel Seven’s Sunrise via video link to promote his new post-apocalyptic film ‘2067’.

The former Home and Away star-turned-Hollywood heartthrob appeared to have slimmer build and a shorter haircut than in recent years.

Ryan filmed his new climate change thriller in Australia two years ago, and said he was ‘really proud’ of the movie.

Describing his role, he said: ‘Cody is such an unlikely hero, but he is really magnanimous in this movie, it’s really incredible.’

Living in Los Angeles amid the coronavirus pandemic, Ryan said he’s certainly noticed the lack of productions picking up in America.

‘Australia has bounced back into production a lot quicker than not just the states, but seems like almost anywhere…  I’m trying to stay out of the real madness and keep myself sane and focus on what’s really important, I guess,’ Ryan said.

Ryan had his major international breakthrough role on HBO’s True Blood from 2008 to 2014 over its entire seven seasons.

However, he is most recognisable to Australian and UK fans from the long-running soap Home and Away, where he starred as Vinnie Patterson from 1997 to 2002.

His character was married to Leah Patterson (actress Ada Nicodemou).

While Vinnie was assumed dead in a prison fire, it was later revealed that Vinnie survived the fire and was living in witness protection.

He joked during his chat with Sunrise that the show’s writers have often pitched ridiculous ways he could return to Summer Bay.

While Ryan’s star continues to rise, the Australian-born actor does not often flaunt his celebrity status.

In 2020, Ryan told Daily Mail Australia that he chooses to lead a private life when cameras stop rolling.

‘I try and put all the drama into my life on screen and leave my life outside of it as drama-free as I can,’ he said, adding: ‘I think the more people know about me the less inclined they are to believe the character that I play.’
