The Masked Singer winner Joss Stone admits the ‘best thing’ about the show is ‘not being judged’

And The Masked Singer winner Joss Stone confirmed the show was a breath of fresh air because she was ‘not being judged,’ but confessed that maintaining her disguise almost resulted in family arguments. 

The soul singer, 33, said it was a ‘fun’ experience but revealed ‘some people got mad’ as she went to great lengths to hide her participation in the show from her loved ones.

The Sun reported what Joss said after unveiling her disguise: ‘It’s really just being able to have fun and not be judged as well. 

‘We all have our preconceptions of somebody. All of that was out the window, it’s just music, it’s just a laugh.

 ‘And that’s what it came down to. It wasn’t anything too serious. That was the best bit about it.’

Joss, who was heavily pregnant at the time of filming and has since welcomed her first child, removed her mask after beating Badger and Robin.

Prior to being crowned the winner, Badger was revealed as singer Ne-Yo, who finished in second place, while Robin was unmasked as JLS star Aston Merrygold, who came third. 

Fans of the show initially believed Sausage could by actress Sheridan Smith or Loose Women’s Stacey Solomon, up until Joss was unmasked to reveal her flaxen tresses and beaming smile.    

Despite bringing joy to households across the UK, the songwriter admitted she drove her family ‘crazy’ as she filmed the show in secret without their knowledge. 

She said to The Mirror: ‘People around me were constantly trying to guess what I was doing in these weeks. 

She added: 'I'm dressed as a sausage, what are you going to do but laugh?!'

‘Some people even got mad because I wouldn’t tell them. It’s really been quite funny how crazy people get when you keep secrets from them. Madness!’ 

She also revealed that the clues presented during the show reminded her of parts of her life which she had forgotten, as she praised the ‘amazing’ Masked Singer researcher. 

Joss also said that she understood why the judging panel didn’t guess her identity due to the obscure hints. 

Prior to her unmasking, judges Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall and Rita Ora all guessed who the contestant could be.

The foursome were joined by 2020 winner, Nicola Roberts, on the panel who was able to offer her guidance.

The judges all guessed the wrong celebrity with Jonathan saying actress Sheridan, Rita guessing Leona Lewis, Nicola questioning whether it was Loose Women’s Stacey, Davina guessing Fergie and Mo predicting Beverley Knight. 

Host Joel Dommett pointed out that Joss was heavily pregnant at the time of filming. 

The star welcomed her first child, a daughter named Violet Melissa, with American musician boyfriend Cody DaLuz earlier this month. 

The singer confirmed she gave birth via caesarean section following a ‘tiring’ labour experience as she and her partner appeared on Facebook Live last Sunday evening.
