The British Transport Police said the young man was taken to hospital for treatment, adding that his condition is described as life-threatening.

In a statement released on Monday, Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn said the investigation was at ‘an early stage’ and that police ‘are keeping an open mind as to exactly where this violent incident began.

‘Following a number of inquiries throughout the night, we believe the man sustained his injury from a crossbow bolt,’ Blackburn said.
