Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge to put their own spin on Mr. & Mrs. Smith in new series for Amazon
It was box office magic: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as ultimate killer flirts in the action-comedy film, Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
It went on to become a bonafide hit in 2005, grossing more than $487 million worldwide.
Fast forward 16 years and Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are looking to put a different spin on the film as the lead couple in a new series for Amazon Prime Video and New Regency.
And to help break the news to the world: Glover, Waller-Bridge and Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke took to their Instagram pages on Friday and posted a video along with some of the details.

The video stars Glover and Waller-Bridge doing the latest TikTok trends. It begins with Glover busting a move or two in blue jeans and a classic white t-shirt.
It quickly cuts to a skeptical-looking Waller-Bridge, with eyebrows raised, sitting on a bed dressed in stylish pajamas.
With Paul Anka’s catchy 1959 hit song — Put Your Head On My Shoulders — playing in the background, the actress takes off her glasses and casually walks over to the bedroom doorway and strikes a confident pose.

‘Introducing the new Mr. & Mrs. Smith 2022,’ the actress wrote in the caption of her post before adding, ‘Co created with Francesca Sloan New Regency + @amazonstudios + PWB + @childishgambino.’
The series has been in the works for months. And in the end, Glover and Waller-Bridge co-created the new show with Francesca Sloane.
The acting duo will play assassins John Smith and Jane Smith, while also serving as executive producers for the series.
They previously worked together in the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Waller-Bridge, 35, has an overall deal with Amazon thanks to the success of her show Fleabag, which was exclusive to the streamer in the U.S.
The updated Mr. & Mrs. Smith will debut on Amazon Prime Video in 2022.
