A man who was blinded and scarred when his ex-partner threw sulphuric acid over him as he slept says he ‘still has nightmares’ nearly five years on.

Daniel Rotariu, 35, suffered severe burns to a third of his body and lost his sight when Katie Leong attacked him in their home in 2016.

He has since married his wife Anna who he met when she was appointed his carer as he recovered from the horrific incident.

But he added he has issues sleeping, made worse by the ongoing national lockdown.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: ‘I do have nightmares sometimes – not every day but I do.

“The insomnia, I think it’s also because I am inactive, I am not working, just sitting in the house – that is not good.

“I can’t pass one day without swearing at Katie for what she did.

‘It’s hard to forget about what happened.”

Mr Rotariu met Leong in January 2015 when they moved into a house share in Leicester and they started a relationship.

His face was dissolved by half a litre of acid as he slept following a row.

Describing the attack ,he previously said he thought she was pouring boiling water over his face when he woke up and felt a burning sensation.

Leong was jailed for life in 2017 with a minimum 17 years for attempted murder and was ordered to pay Daniel £19,000 in compensation.
