Post Malone confirms he will be headlining a virtual concert to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise

Post Malone is preparing for a new gig. 

On Thursday, Billboard announced that the White Iverson songwriter will be headlining a virtual concert to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise.

The 25-year-old songwriter then shared news of the upcoming event in a video uploaded to the official Pokemon YouTube channel this morning.

The video showed Malone stepping out of a limousine and being escorted through the walkways of a concert venue. 

The Congratulations songwriter looked down at a Poke Ball in his left hand and transformed into an animated version of himself before walking onto a stage.

The rapper will perform on February 27 and the concert will be simulcast across Pokemon’s YouTube and Twitch channels as well as its 25th anniversary website.

Malone’s concert serves as the kickoff for the P25 series, envisioned as an artist-led tribute to the numerous entries in the media franchise.

More details regarding the lineup for the series will be announced at the end of the Circles songwriter’s show.

Katy Perry has already been confirmed as one of the featured artists for the celebration.

As a lead-up to the event, the Pokémon Company International will release Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto on February 20th.

The event will add numerous characters from the original games to the mobile gaming sensation.  

Ahead of the virtual concert, Malone gave a statement to the music publication to express his longtime fondness for the franchise and elaborate on why he was excited to collaborate with the Pokemon company.

‘I’ve been a fan for such a long time, kind of grew up with it. Celebrating 25 years is a big deal, so we decided to do it together,’ the songwriter said.

He also sat down for a Q&A session, during which he acknowledged the gaming company’s efforts to produce his upcoming show. 

‘The Pokémon team put in so much work — this is one of the coolest things I’ve been a part of,’ he remarked.

Malone then spoke about the state of musical performance in the era of the global pandemic and stated that he was looking forward to performing in front of fans again. 

The rapper noted, ‘I’d like to hope live music gets back to where it was. I know I can’t wait to get back to playing live music.’
