Surprisingly, this is The Go-Go’s first nomination, despite more than 40 years passing since their debut album Beauty and the Beat dropped, which remains the only entirely self-written album by an all-female band, who played their own instruments, to go number one on the Billboard Hot 200.

In their first year of eligibility, rapper Jay-Z and the Foo Fighters also scored nominations.

Musicians have to wait at least 25 years after their debut record to be considered for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which inducted the late superstar Whitney Houston last year.
