Tracy Beaker star Dani Harmer admits she ‘isn’t a Victoria’s Secret model’ but is still ‘fabulous’

Tracy Beaker actress Dani Harmer declared she will ‘never look like a Victoria’s Secret model’ but is nevertheless ‘fabulous’ after she recently disclosed that she was fat-shamed on Strictly Come Dancing, despite being a size six.

The actress, 31. penned the empowering comment to Twitter on Wednesday after a follower said: ‘Normal bodies don’t look like Victoria’s Secret models’.

The post comes after she admitted she was bombarded with cruel comments about her looks when she competed on the BBC dancing show in 2012.

After opening up about online trolling, Dani confirmed she is now a size ten, as she asserted it ‘isn’t exactly huge’ while asking others to ‘move on’.

She confirmed she has put on weight during lockdown, to which a fan responded: ‘Size 10 is a normal size in fact any size is normal and healthy.

‘Normal bodies dont look like Victoria secrets models because we actually eat food and enjoy it so bloody treat yourself especially in these hard times. love your body no matter what.’ (sic)

Dani responded to the comment on social media: ‘I’m 5ft so obviously not going to ever look like a Victoria secret model but my goodness I’m fabulous xxx’.

Another fan commented: ‘I am so glad you said this ,i 5.2 and unless some horrific experiment is created I will never have a longer torso/legs so need to work with what I have. I think you look amazing.’ (sic)

A second follower added: ‘I am the same 5ft , ignore the haters there just jealous , always thought u was so pretty been watching u since tracy beaker #bogofelianethepain.’ (sic)

A third penned: ‘I’m 5ft and a size 10 too I quite like how I look. They are just jealous of us as they aren’t a size 10 themselves’. (sic)

The actress – who is returning in a reboot of Tracy Beaker this month – , told Radio Times how she was sent abuse about her looks after she finished fourth in the BBC show with dance partner Vincent Simone, eight-years-ago.

She said: ‘I was like, “Holy moly, if I’m fat, God knows what other people must be thinking if they’re bigger than me!” That must be just horrible. I can think of things really logically and be like, obviously, I’m not fat, that’s ridiculous.

‘This person, obviously, is just bored, or has something wrong with their life that they feel like this is the only way they can get some validation and I actually feel sorry for them.

‘So I can kind of put it logically, I guess. But yeah, for kids it must be so hard.’

The star added that people are now ‘a bit more open’ about their mental health in the present day and that others were using their social media pages more responsibly.

Dani is preparing to reprise her iconic role as tearaway Tracy Beaker – with the BBC recently releasing a new spoiler ahead of the upcoming reboot -titled My Mum Tracy Beaker.

Dani, who played the former tearaway teen in the original 2002 series, will reprise the character who is now in her thirties.

In the reboot based on Jacqueline Wilson’s 2018 book, Tracy is a single mother to 10-year-old daughter Jess, played by Emma Maggie Davies, as the duo try to ‘scrape by financially’.

Yet their lives are transformed by Tracy’s new rich footballer boyfriend, Sean Godfrey, played by Jordan Duvigneau.

Sean, who is recently retired and has always admired Tracy since they were young, wants to whisk the mother and daughter away to his lavish mansion.

But with things starting to go ‘pear-shaped’, it’s up to Tracy’s 10-year-old daughter Jess to save the day.

My Mum Tracy Beaker will also see original show regulars Lisa Coleman, who plays Tracy’s foster mum Cam, Montanna Thompson, who plays Tracy’s nemesis Justine Littlewood, and Ruth Gemmell, who plays Tracy’s estranged mother Carly Beaker.

The reboot will be shown from the perspective of Jess and coincides with the 30th anniversary of Jacqueline Wilson’s original 1991 book The Story Of Tracy Beaker.
