Moment woman is caught on doorbell cam ‘trying to con her way into house shouting ”I need help!” in ”damsel in distress” scam before being scared off by the owner’s dog’

This is the moment a woman appears to try to trick her way into a home by pretending she needed help in a suspected ‘damsel in distress’ scam.
Footage captured by a Ring doorbell camera shows the woman approaching a home in Ilford, east London, at around 5am on Monday.
In the CCTV footage, the woman is filmed outside the front door – seemingly feigning distress as she shouts ‘I need help! Please help. Please help me’ before quietly reporting to someone on her mobile phone ‘Hold on, I’m just knocking on the door’.

However as soon as she hears their dog bark, the woman immediately runs away from the house.
The video was shared by @ig1ig3 – a social media page which raises awareness about news in the Ilford area.
The homeowners said the woman rang their doorbell asking for help but upon hearing their dog bark, she ran away and rang their neighbours’ door instead.

But when the woman noticed that all the occupants in the house are awake, she bolted from the scene into a nearby parked car.
The occupants said: ‘If she needed help she wouldn’t run away, nor run into a running car. This was clearly a scam and was leading to something more.
‘Luckily the dog made her think twice, knocking on our neighbours’ door seemed like a cover up’.
The Metropolitan Police said there was no record of the incident.
