Beanie-wearing Boris Johnson braves the bitter chill for some squats and lunges

Blame it on the BEANIE! Boris Johnson suffers bad hair day in the Commons… after donning bright red hat to keep head warm during morning exercise

  • Boris Johnson, 56, sported a chaotic hairstyle for Commons grilling
  • Earlier he looked to be putting in quite the effort in a morning work-out
  • Exercises in the session included lunges as well as knee raises this morning
  • But it was squats that seemed to provide most difficulty for the Tory leader
  • Mr Johnson grimaced in concentration as he carried out the exercise move

Prime Minister Boris Johnson looked to be having a bad hair day in the Commons this lunchtime – after an early work-out session wearing a beanie hat.

The PM, 56, looked as though he had not put a brush to his head as he painted a disheveled figure at the heart of government.

Johnson’s flyaway tresses looked more Worzel Gummidge than Prime Ministerial as he took PMQ’s.

Earlier he had braved the freezing conditions to continue his exercise regime – complete with squats and lunges.

The PM, 56, opted for an unusual mix of work-out gear and knitted garments for the early morning session.

While he looked the part in sporty shorts and running trainers, he teamed them with a red bobble hat and green woolly jumper.

But the sartorial mash-up did nothing to dim his enthusiasm as he was put through his paces by personal trainer Harry Jameson.

Concentration was etched onto his face as he crouched into a squat position, tightly clamping his hands together.

Later during the work-out he did some knee raises, which can help with abdominal strengthening.

He has been special permission to work out in Lambeth Palace.

When he launched the government’s Better Health Strategy in July he said: ‘I’ve always wanted to lose weight for ages and ages.

‘Like, I think, many people I struggle with my weight – go up and down.

‘But since I recovered from coronavirus, I’ve been steadily building up my fitness.

‘I don’t want to make any excessive claims because I’ve only really just started concentrating on it, but I’ve got – I’m at least a stone down.

‘I’m more than a stone down. But when I went into ICU, when I was really ill, I was very, I was way overweight.’
