Today host Allison Langdon is ‘on the mend’ after undergoing knee surgery following her on-camera hydrofoiling accident

Allison Langdon has undergone knee surgery after she seriously hurt herself while filming a watersports segment for the Today show last week.

Her colleagues Karl Stefanovic and Leila McKinnon updated viewers on her current condition on Tuesday.

Leila, who is filling in as co-anchor this week, said: ‘A big shout-out to Ally this morning. Hopefully she’s back on the mend after her operation.’

Karl added: ‘I spoke to her last night. She seemed pretty good.

‘Again, she was pretty under the influence of whatever they have after an operation. But she was going okay.’

Last week, the Today show was broadcast from Queensland’s Gold Coast.

During a pre-recorded segment on Thursday, Allison ‘badly’ injured her leg while hydrofoiling – a relatively new watersport also known as foil surfing.

Balance is key on the board, and riders have to place more of their weight on their back leg.

Dramatic footage of the accident showed Ally being pulled from the water by her life vest by two male rescuers.

She was taken to hospital where she received treatment and flew back to Sydney on Friday ahead of her operation.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Allison will probably have to take a ‘lengthy break’ from her on-air duties.

Channel Nine will most likely ‘foot the bill’ for her medical bills and rehabilitation.

In a statement to Daily Mail Australia on Friday, Channel Nine described what happened as ‘an unfortunate accident’.

‘After nearly an hour of incident-free filming of a segment about hydrofoiling, Ally fell awkwardly as she headed back to the marina at the end of the shoot,’ they said.

‘It was an unfortunate accident, and she was immediately taken to hospital.

The statement added that both Karl and Ally had ‘comprehensive safety induction and and a thorough run-through of all aspects of hydrofoiling.

‘As with every shoot, safety requirements, briefings and subsequent after-care, are strictly followed and prioritised.’
