Jennifer Lopez discusses challenging the industry’s beauty standards with her famous curves

‘Everyone had to be a waif’: Leggy Jennifer Lopez, 51, sports a short wig as she discusses challenging the industry’s beauty standards with her famous curves and admits she put her family in therapy during lockdown

Singer Jennifer Lopez sports a short wig as she poses for her fourth Allure magazine cover and discusses challenging the industry’s beauty standards as a curvy star.

Noting that when she started out, everyone else was a ‘waif’, she has clearly helped a variety of body types to be considered the ‘norm’ in the showbiz woirld.

J-Lo, 51, who is well known for her famous curves, told Allure: ‘When I came on the scene, it was kind of the time of the waif and everybody had to be stick thin.

‘It was like, “Well, you’re not. How do you feel?” I’m like, “I feel great about it!”‘

During the interview in celebration of Allure’s 30th anniversary, Jennifer put on a leggy display as she posed for a super glamorous shoot.

But speaking about her slightly less glamorous life in lockdown, she said ‘at the start we were all filled with anxiety, adding ‘we were all in the Twilight Zone like everyone else.’

Jennifer added she is glad she has been able to spend much more time with her fiancé and former Yankees slugger Rodriguez, 45, her 12-year-old twins (their father is Marc Anthony), and Rodriguez’s two daughters.

She said they’ve been playing baseball together and painting, acknowledging: ‘We never get to do stuff like that. I was trying to take advantage of the time.’

And Jennifer said it’s been ‘really good’ for the family, adding: ‘We got to work on ourselves. We did therapy. I think it was really helpful for us in our relationship.’

But the pandemic did stop her wedding to A-Rod happening.

She said: ‘It was a big deal. We had been planning for months and months and months, and it was overseas.’

However, she noted that ‘maybe it wasn’t the right time’.

While Jennifer and A-Rod have been seen regularly visiting a private gym in lockdown, the singer has succumbed to treats, like the rest of us.

She admitted: ‘I do sit on the couch and eat potato chips! The thing is not to get too used to it, because it’s so easy and so fun.’

And while she has enjoyed huge success, Jennifer questioned why she was noticeably not given an Oscars nod for her role in Hustlers.

She said: ‘[My production partner] Elaine [Goldsmith-Thomas] made a post where she listed all the things I had been nominated for and won that season and when it came to the Oscars, it was so obviously absent. It was a sting.’

Latino Jennifer said she questioned what that meant that others thought she should have been nominated and she wasn’t.

But she said: ‘It came to a point where I was like, “This is not why I do this. I don’t do this to have 10 Oscars sitting on my mantel or 20 Grammys”.’
