Erin Molan SLAMMED after admitting she wanted to host the Today show alongside Karl Stefanovic

Erin Molan has been slammed online after admitting she would have ‘loved’ to host the Today show alongside Karl Stefanovic.

Last week, the 37-year-old told Stellar magazine that ‘there have been openings on Today, and I would have absolutely loved a call-up’ – but eventually, the prime spot went to Allison Langdon.

However, Erin’s words seemed to cause quite the stir with critics – who slammed her comments about wanting to host the highly popular morning show on social media. 

Many brought up Erin’s short stint on The NRL Footy Show on Channel Nine, which was axed after a dramatic ratings plunge barely a year after she replaced veteran host Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin. 

‘Unfortunately, she will always be known as the girl that killed the footy show,’ one critic wrote on Facebook.

Another added: ‘She destroyed rugby league commentary on Channel Nine and now she has her sights on destroying morning TV as well? Does this woman have no morals?’

‘Glad she never got it – look what she did to the footy show, I loved watching it until she came along!’ a third chimed in. 

‘Wouldn’t watch it if Erin was hosting, don’t like her at all!’ a fourth added, while another raged: ‘What for her to wreck another show? She is on radio, don’t listen to that now either!’

But others were quick to stand up for Erin, with one writing: ‘You would have been far better than Langdon. She is sooooo rude and soooo left and the clothes she wears are shocking. Not smart like the other ladies on 9!’

‘I would have watched it, I love Erin!’ another wrote.

Despite her vast experience in TV, the presenter has been overlooked for several jobs at Nine – including the coveted Today gig.

‘It hasn’t happened. That’s life. You deal with that a million times over in any industry,’ she said. 

Meanwhile, Karl and Allison were appointed as co-anchors of the Today show early last year, after the partnership of Georgie Gardner and Deborah Knight in 2019 was a ratings flop.

Despite the female co-host role going to Allison, Erin isn’t too upset about not being appointed to the Today show.

The media personality – who shares a two-year-old daughter, Eliza, with her fiancé, police officer Sean Ogilvy – said she was thrilled to be joining the 2Day FM family on The Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin.

She began her role on the show last month.
