Amy Schumer stars as a winged ‘Fairy Godmayo’ in Hellmann’s Super Bowl ad combating food waste

She stars on the cooking series Amy Schumer Learns To Cook with her chef husband Chris Fischer.

And Amy Schumer showed off her newfound culinary passion in a Super Bowl ad for Hellmann’s mayonnaise on Sunday.

The 39-year-old stand-up comedian plugged the iconic condiment while suggesting ideas for reinvigorating leftovers with it.

Magical mayo: Amy Schumer 39, played a ‘Fairy Godmayo’ in Hellmann’s Super Bowl ad on Sunday for their mayonnaise

Amy was actually doing double duty, as two different versions of the commercial aired: one east of the Rocky Mountains for Hellmann’s mayo, and one West of the Rockies for Best Foods mayo.

The two brands are identical but have different names in different regions, so the Trainwreck star had to shoot parts of the ad twice to say the different names and swap out her navy blue jacket, which showed the mayonnaise names over her chest.

She paired the blue suit with a yellow satin blouse and had some golden CGI wings added in for extra sparkle.

The video opened with a man rummaging through his fridge and finding an assortment of unappetizing leftovers.

‘Sad. This is sad,’ Amy says as she magically appears in a shower of golden sparks on the edge of the kitchen island.

‘I’m your Fairy Godmayo,’ she explains to the shocked man. ‘And that is a hot mess!’

He has some left over meat trimmings, plus half an onion and an artichoke.

‘What even is an artichoke?’ he asks.

‘No one knows,’ she says dismissively as she shoos him aside to grab a jar of Hellmann’s/Best Foods mayonnaise from the fridge door.

With a flick of her butter knife, the island is covered with an enviable spread including chocolate cake, a spinach–artichoke dip, nachos, deviled eggs and sandwich wraps, presumably representing things that can be made with mayo.

‘Oh yeah, that’s normal,’ jokes the man.

After her magical display, the two take a break to chow down on all the food.

Amy ends the ad with a humorous stinger after the man asks what else she can do.

‘Absolute nothing,’ she says in a deadpan. ‘Like nothing.’

The clip ended with an onscreen slogan: ‘Make taste. Not waste.’

In a press release shared by Hellmann’s last month, the brand said the mayo ad was intended to inspire people to waste less food, while also presumably urging them to buy its product.

‘It was startling to learn how much food gets thrown out in our homes, especially when you consider how many people are struggling to put food on their tables,’ Amy said.

‘I’m proud to partner with Hellmann’s to bring awareness to this issue and help provide people with tangible ways to make easy changes at home. Simple steps like embracing imperfect foods and organizing your fridge or pantry can start to help reduce waste and inspire creativity in the kitchen.’

The single-location ad was directed by Peter Farrelly, best known for directing comedies like Dumb And Dumber and There’s Something About Mary with his brother Bobby Farrelly and for helming the Oscar-winning film Green Book on his own.
